Entry #4 Bullet Train
Bullet Train is a 2022 Action Comedy starring Brad Pitt. It follows former assassin, Ladybug, as he gets back in the game with a straightforward mission: snatch an aluminum attaché case from a speedy Shinkansen train bound for Kyoto and return it to its owner in one piece. However, there's always a catch to great-sounding deals. As five vicious hitmen vie for the same silver briefcase, hidden agendas get in the way, and everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Undoubtedly, Ladybug is a bad luck magnet.
For anyone who hasn’t seen it, I highly recommend it. After watching it for the first time it instantly became one of my favorite movies and recently, I’ve been recommended several video essays on YouTube that furthered my love for the movie. So today I would like to share with you what exactly makes this movie so great.
While the movie is considered action-comedy it is almost a mystery or thriller. It certainly gravitates toward the action but between the fist fights and gunfire a lot of time is spent trying to figure out what is happening on the train, not unlike the popular book and movie Murder on the Orient Express. There are many parallels that can be drawn between the two but my point being that it is the mystery in between the mindless fights that give the movie some extra depth and charm.
Another great aspect of the movie is its exploration of themes such as luck, fate, karma, and how your outlook and view can change it. The movie isn’t subtle about this one, but I don’t think it undermines the point it is trying to make. Getting more specific I believe the movie is asking the question of does luck control our lives or do we make our own fate.
Finally, I just enjoy how well the continuity flows as well as how much foreshadowing there is in the movie. Every time I watch it again, I notice new things such as the movie opening. It opens with a cartoon playing on a small tv and each character in cartoon represents a character in the movie, thus foreshadowing what’s going to happen. It’s just small details like that which are impossible to spot on the first time through that are still added that makes this movie so great.
It's wonderful to hear how much you love "Bullet Train"! because me too, Your detailed insights into what makes this movie so special are truly captivating. The blend of action, mystery, and comedy, along with the exploration of themes like luck and fate, adds depth to the experience. They need to make more movies like this.
