Entry #2 Self-care
While
attending my first-year experience class the topic of self-care and how to
better yourself came up so I thought it would be helpful to share what I have gathered
so far. Self-care is the practice of nurturing one’s well-being. This is broken
down into four distinct points, A purposeful mind, purposeful body, purposeful
emotions, and purposeful connectedness.
The
first point, A purposeful mind, is central to self-care. It involves sharpening
your mind through activities that stimulate creativity and mental growth. Some examples
might include meditation, creating and working towards personal goals, or even
just taking time to think and gain perspective. Creating a purposeful mind is
all about managing stress and developing a sense of purpose.
Secondly,
a purposeful body is just as important in self-care. This promotes physical
health through exercise, rest, and a healthy diet. By cultivating a purposeful
body not only do you boost your overall energy levels and health, but you also
help create a positive self-image. This is crucial for your mental health and
can even help with severe mental illness.
The
third point to self-care is purposeful emotions. Learning to manage emotions,
both positive and negative, is a key point to self-care. Therapy or counseling
is a good option if needed but just by accepting and understanding one’s
emotions they begin to build a deeper sense of self-awareness. This can help one
address future emotions and anxiety.
The
fourth and final point is purposeful connectedness. Humans are inherently social
creatures and connections are an important aspect to one’s well-being. Whether
by developing friendships, creating new relationships, or even just by engaging
in social activities helps people feel fulfilled. Relationships of any type are
crucial to proper self-care.
Ultimately
self-care is a fundamental necessity for living a healthy and happy life. By working
on developing each of these four aspects individuals can improve their well-being
and achieve greater satisfaction in their lives.
This was a nice overview of self care. Thank you for sharing this information. I will be taking this FYE course next semester, so it gives me a taste of what I will learn in this class. Interesting how you were able to tie the two classes together for this blogpost.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog. I agree that self-care is a fundamental necessity and that everyone should develop these skills for themselves. Thanks for sharing!
